These mixes I am putting together have an underlying story of reflection told through the “characters” (or person singing the song). They jump around in perspective, time - past, present and future - and current states (sleep, admiration, anger, love etc.).
I think they’re clever as can be, but it could be that I’m just connecting loose strings and looking too deeply into words.
Regardless, the music is ace.
Waiting, waiting and waiting.
I’ve been writing in phonetics all day someone stop me
Forever - Haim
Hey you! Hey you!
Can’t you make this sane?
I know, I know, I know you ain’t the one to play the game.
Now I know I’m gonna go your way.
Here we go, now I know, I know know know.
Follow - DIIV
I’m putting it off
And I can’t control fate
'Cause we're similar
I blame it on you
'Cause that side of me I hate
But you were never hurt
Joan of Arc - Arcade Fire
You had a vision they couldn’t see so/They put you down
But everything that you said would happen/It came around
And they’re the ones that put you down/'Cause they got no heart
But I’m the one that will follow you
You’re my Joan of Arc
Marrow (live) - Love This Giant (aka St. Vincent/David Bryne)
Muscle connects to the bone/And the bone to the ire and the marrow
So I pretend these aren’t ten strings attached to all ten of my fingers.
Help me, help me
I’m getting high
To pass the time
No reason why
Was my reply
You will sleep, but will you sleep lonely or alone?
Insane (feat. Moon Holiday) - Flume
Your mind is on track
For games we play these days
With every parth we take
You know your safe, safe, safe
The only risk is that you’ll go insane
